Impellers

Q. Viscosity becomes relatively high. Please show me the highest viscosity that is available for MAXBLEND.
Our recommended viscosity range by the actual-equipment scale (several m3 or more) is 10,000 to 50,000 cp. However, you must actually check the Reynolds number (Re number) in the vessel. When the Re number is 50 or more, there is no problem. Even if it exceeds 50,000 cp, this impeller may still be used if non-Newtonian fluid is high. Please contact us for details.
Q. There are MAXBLEND impellers that have different diameters and shapes. Which type should I use?
There are different types as shown below.
M/B-W type: Used when liquid viscosity exceeds 10,000 cp and the mixing performance for high viscosity is important.
M/B-R type: Used when liquid depth is greater than or equal to 1.5 times the inside diameter of the tank.
M/B-G type: Used when you want to enhance gas dispersion performance in a low-viscosity system.
However, the impeller shape must be adjusted depending on conditions, such as the mixing purpose or whether coils are installed in the vessel. Please contact us at the implementation stage.
Q. How does an upward flow occur with the MAXBLEND impeller?
An upward flow is formed at the vessel wall due to a pressure difference between the upper and lower walls. This is caused by making the discharge flow from the bottom of the impeller (bottom paddle section) larger than the top of the impeller (grid section).
Q. Can I replace only the impeller for the existing mixing vessel?
Yes. However, you need to examine whether or not the existing vessel drive unit can withstand a mixing load during MAXBLEND operation. Please contact us for details.
Q. Does the impeller have a flat-plate structure?
Yes. A special type is used depending on conditions; however, the flat-plate structure is maintained, taking into account impeller washability in the vessel.
Q. Is a resin coating available for the MAXBLEND impeller?
Yes. In addition, there is a glass-lined type.
Q. What is the MAXBLEND impeller shearing force as compared to other impellers?
The impeller provides approximately 20 shearing speed systems, which are between the paddle impeller (approx. 10) and the WHR impeller (approx. 30).
Q. Is a main body flange required for the large-scale impeller?
The impeller can be assembled in the tank and divided into sizes that facilitate removal from the manhole.
Q. Is the impeller shape different for vessels with conical bottoms?
Yes. The bottom of the impeller is manufactured to suit the conical shape.
Q. Does washability decrease during batch operations due to the wide impeller?
The impeller has a two-dimensional plate structure, so washing is easier than with three-dimensional impellers, such as the rake paddle or WHR impeller.

Vessel, jacket, and internal

Q. I do not want to put internals in the vessel because there are many substances attached?
If liquid viscosity is below 5000 cp, a baffle can be mounted. However, if the impeller is operated at low power to reduce aggregates by emulsion polymerization, you can use a pipe baffle or no baffle.
Q. What is the standard baffle shape provided for the MAXBLEND impeller?
In general, four flat boards are used. However, the baffle shape significantly affects attached substances, etc. If problems occur, please contact us.
Q. Can I mount a coil in the vessel?
Yes. For low-viscosity specifications, you can use up to four windings.
Q. When a coil is attached in the vessel, is the flow pattern changed?
No, the flow pattern is not changed due to the upward flow formed by the discharge flow from the bottom paddle.
Q. Is a bottom bearing required?
Manufacturing is possible regardless of whether or not the bottom bearing is provided. However, if the bottom bearing is a process fluid, the mixing vessel can be easily designed, thereby reducing cost.
Q. Are vessel bottom shapes other than 2:1 semi-ellipse available?
The 2:1 semi-ellipse mirror is ideal on the surface, where the vessel wall upward flow from the bottom paddle is formed. In addition, a half-pause mirror in the high-pressure vessel, conical mirror in the slurry vessel, and a 10%-plate type mirror are used. Please contact us for details.
