Distillation Technology

Towards chemical industries, we contribute with our distillation technology in all phases such as basic engineering, detail engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.

We offer solutions for distillation plant with our distillation technologies, optimizing packed column with structured packing, random packing and/or tray column.

Recently we highlight the energy-saving distillation column, Column-In-Column, known as DWC or Divided Wall Column for the multicomponent separation process, and increase its deliveries.

Also as the key component of distillation technologies, we supply our "SFLOW", structured packing, and our several decades experience substantiates quality of structured packings and our capability on distillation field.


  1. 1.We propose and support the initial and basic planning of the distillation process utilizing the chemical process simulator.
  2. 2.We offer optimized processes with our SFLOW packed columns, tray column, and/or random packing column.
  3. 3.We supply our SFLOW, structured packing, which can be applied over a wide range of process due to its feature of low pressure drop and SFLOW is manufactured under stringent quality control in our factory in Japan.
  4. 4.We handle the design and manufacturing of distillation process equipment and/or component such as distillation columns, reboilers, and condensers as well as structured packing and the internals.
  5. 5.We have numerous delivery experiences of energy-saving distillation column, "Column-In-Column", known as DWC or Divided Wall Column especially for multicomponent separation process.
  6. 6.We plan and construct plants, including necessary related facilities for the distillation process, raw-material handling and product tank yards.


Our SFLOW, structured packing, exhibits excellent separation performance over a wide range of process, from low liquid throughput to high liquid throughput due to special surface treatments and its unique structures.
We supply two types of SLOW, sheet-type and wire-netting-type. And there are 9 types for sheet-type and 2 types for wire-netting, depending on the specific surface area and corrugated plate angle.
We offer appropriate type for the best solution.

Conventionally multiple columns are required for multi-component separation process.
However Sumitomo developed Column-In-Column which provides an energy-saving distillation system for multicomponent separation process. This system decreases energy, space, piping-work, instrumentation etc, and accordingly reduce both initial and running costs.

Columns, Re-Boilers and Condensers are the main equipments for distillation process and derive the excellent performance of SFLOW structured packing, trays and random packing We have abundant design and manufacturing experience for various code and non-code products and control those quality.
We propose the optimal reboiler and condenser depending on our vast experience for various processes.

We did not limit our service to supply only SFLOW, the internals and main equipment. We offer EPC services as total solution of distillation plant, such as basic design, detail design, manufacturing, procurement, piping design, and electric instrumentation design.


Widely applied to various kinds of processes, basing on our abundant experiences.

Applied to high performance separation process.
Sometimes this type is applied to revamping project such as upgrading from sheet-type.

Distributor that affects the performance of the packed column.

We propose, design, and manufacture the optimum distributor to suit the required turndown ratio or liquid properties.

Liquid collection and re-distribution in the column are required to ensure the stable performance of the packed column.
This collector laminar, which features a low-pressure drop structure, is used to collect liquid.

FFPLUS is an attachment for falling film type reboiler.
FFPLUS reduces the thermal entrance region of heat exchanger tube and contributes to utilize the performance of heat exchanger effectively.
FFPLUS can be attached to the existing equipment as well as to newly installed equipment, and retrofit the existing equipment.

We provide various trays as well as the packed column.


Our distillation technology can resolve the following issues.

Utilizing the idle column for process innovation.
Recently we increase our experience to convert the existing conventional column into Column-In-Column system for process innovation or saving-energy.

For some cases, the existing column was idle due to the client's business circumstances change.

To enhance the separation performance of the existing distillation column.
There are cases which has been achieved by utilizing the existing column with changing the tray column to SFLOW packed column, or upgrading the packing and internals of the existing packed column to high-performance packing and internals.

We design and support revamping of the existing column.
